Chakra Training Guide -- OOC Reference

Okay, so this is a little guide/outline for how chakra training goes, and all the things you learn about chakra itself that goes with it. A little of this has to be handwaved if only because the series doesn't explain it, but I'll be as specific as I can too.

Notes: Ninjas in Naruto are trained from a very young age to use chakra to be able to fully use it when they're older, as that's likely both the easiest time to open your tenketsu points to release it, as well as the time to really build up those chakra reserves in the first place. IE. the longer you wait to learn, the tougher it will be: hence why it'll read as a slow process.

Step 1: Introduction to chakra

This is the lecture-heavy portion of the training, explaining exactly what chakra is and how it works. To sum the relevant parts in this article up, this is what would be covered:

-- What chakra is: the combination of physical and spiritual energies, a vital part of human life, and the necessary foundation for all jutsus.
  • Physical energy is taken from the body's cells.
  • Spiritual energy comes from the mind and the soul.
  • Chakra itself then, as a combination of these, is essentially your life energy. As such, it's very important to learn how to use it properly, as you're literally playing with your life.
  • It is typically invisible to the naked eye. (exceptions like the Hyuuga clan may come up here)
  • It's contained in the chakra coils that surround chakra-producing organs (the brain, heart, and stomach), and travels through the Chakra Circulatory System, much like blood does in the Cardiovascular System.
-- How it works. Covers the technicalities, as well as risks and maintenance.
  • Chakra can be released outside of the body through chakra points, or tenketsu. There are 361 of these in the body along the chakra circulatory system, though it's unusual to use even a fraction of them.
  • Balance is key to molding chakra. Different ratios of physical and spiritual energies produce different results. Too much or too little of each, and it won't work at all.
  • Physical energy is built up through training and exercise.
  • Spiritual energy is increased through studying, meditating, and experience.
  • Chakra use depends greatly on stamina and maintaining these two energies. The body combines them naturally on its own to some extent, but ninja must take this a step further both in order to control and generate more of it.
  • Overuse of chakra can make you feel sick, or at worst lead to chakra exhaustion (which can kill you). For this reason, until you're able to monitor your chakra levels, it's safest to take regular breaks while training.
  • Chakra can be recovered naturally, through eating or plenty of rest.
Time spent on the subject: Two weeks to a month, but always in review.

Step 2: Chakra building and awareness

--Chakra building. These are things the character can do on their own, but it's important to get into a regular habit of.
  • Physical activities. Whatever works best for the character, though things like spars, weight training, or running will be suggested.
  • Spiritual/mental activities. Homework, reading, meditation. Certain games, maybe.
-- Chakra awareness. This is a part where I have to flub it some. There's probably more to it than what's listed, but shhh. It's a ninja secret, obviously.
  • An experienced chakra user can help by forcing a small amount of chakra into the other person, similar to the way one would dispel a genjutsu. It feels like a static charge from inside the chakra circulatory system.
  • Certain meditation and concentrations exercises (may expand on this)
Time spent: One month (before moving to Step 3); constantly practiced

Step 3: Chakra molding

--Combining energies. More flubbing/headcanon.
  • [How exactly this is accomplished goes here]
  • Unlike blood, once you're aware of it, chakra is much more responsive. It can be as easy as moving a finger, but it does take conscious effort. It's also largely dependent on the user - some have more talent for it than others.
  • Concentration, confidence, and heavy practice all play a vital role here. Molding chakra is something taught through experience.

--Chakra exercises. These are meant to teach the person how to channel chakra to specific places in the body, and how to release it.
  • Leaf Concentration Practice is a basic exercise in chakra control, as well as focus. The point is to make a leaf stick to your forehead using only chakra.
  • [Unnamed exercise] Channeling chakra to the soles of your feet serves both to learn how to channel chakra properly, and to release it. If done properly, even standing still it will kick up a small cloud of dirt.
  • Hand Seals. While necessary to create jutsu for ninjas, the main purpose of this exercise at the beginner's stage is to learn how to control the amount of chakra released.
Time Spent: Three to six months (?)
