Hi. [The journal feed starts unceremoniously.] Noticed the village is getting back into the swing of things. Either that or those who are sulking are doing so more quietly. Good luck with that, whichever.

But hey. I'm looking for a lighter that I misplaced. Anyone comes across it, lemme know. Thanks.

[Through the afternoon and evening, Shikamaru can be found in various places around the village: digging through things in shops, searching through grass and shrubs and so on. He hasn't been around the village much in the last two days, busy elsewhere with his deer.

Now it almost seems like he's making up for it. One minute you might walk past him digging through the trash behind a building, only to go in to find he's inside already (probably asking if the place has a lost and found). Someone's busy.]

...Ugh, good point. Well, I've got my Dream Eater with me. Could always send him one direction while I go another.

Shikamaru? Shi-ka-maru. Ah, yes, such an unusual name. I am most sure that most maidens would have problems with pronouncing such a name, you see?

[A smile.]

One would definitely be better off with a Midgardian name like Bob or John. If only for the maidens.

[He nods, because this is definitely the best advice he can give to a guy named Shikamaru.]

I am Loki. [A short silence because oh, yes, he forgot something.] I am not the older Loki.

And why not?

[Though she has an idea why.]

[HIS THOUGHTS EXACTLY, FREY.]

Asking such a thing isn't a big deal. You could do it over the journals, in fact. Something like "is anyone interested in this game?" works fine.

[He's getting a lecture on girls, really.]

Ha, no kidding.

[He seems neither surprised they share the same name, nor that they're different people. Rather he grins.]

You both talk funny, but you have more luck with the maidens. Right?

[Siiiigh.] All right.

[Wow, you'd think she wasn't helping - only that's exactly what she's trying. He's been stressing over this. Show some gratitude, even if she is spunky.

After a moment, he smiles.]

We're looking for a lighter. 'bout so big. [He uses his hand to indicate the size.]

He's not a bad guy. Bluntly honest, but he tries to do the right thing. And he does what he says.

[The clone fields this one, wagging a finger.]

Ninja. [THE THRILL. THE MYSTERY. THE- ah it's not that great.] All you need to know is I'm not long for here.

[He tilts his head back to Shikamaru.] You're as worn out as I am, right?

[Yep. Cheaters alright. But Aang is too baffled to try to bring that up.]

Are you gonna be okay?

[Shikamaru nods, quietly admitting to his own weakness. This is the longest he's maintained a clone though, so it's still something to be proud of. He lets the clone do the talking again.]

We're fine. Doing this is troublesome, is the thing. Takes more energy than the boss is used to.

[And with that, the clone waves before bring his hands up to dispel himself.]

[It's still a big shock for a Shikamaru to disappear.]

Shikamaru!

[That doesn't feel a hundred percent better - the clone was working too - but it is more comfortable. Shikamaru sags a little, but seems unbothered.]

Don't sweat it, Aang. He was a Shadow Clone. That's what they do.

A... Shadow Clone? Is that like one of your shadow abilities? [He hasn't learned much about Shikamaru's shadowbending, actually, aside from it's ability to make puppet shows. But for now he's mostly concerned about whether or not a sentient life was just extinguished.]

[It seemed like a really thing to think, certainly....]

Your lighter....? You threw it away by accident, then?

.. But.. if I do it over the journals.. [ her voice drops, as if she's telling a secret or is afraid anyone else will hear (as if dropping your voice would help anything then, kotomi..) ] .. then bullies might hear.

[A smile.]

Then, I guess it's just the two of us that'll do the search.

I think being honest is a good thing!

Got it, and when didja last see it? Were you trying to light a firework and you got so excited that you lost track of where you put it?

[... It could happen. She deposits another junk pile somewhere else. That floor is so clean now you could eat off of it.]

[Scratching his cheek thoughtfully.] Need help?

Not quite. A friend who is much better at using them is teaching me.

[Shikamaru will probably catch onto that later. Clones are a basic feat of their world, in the milder version.]

Yeah. [Amnesia counts as an accident, right?]
