Hi. [The journal feed starts unceremoniously.] Noticed the village is getting back into the swing of things. Either that or those who are sulking are doing so more quietly. Good luck with that, whichever.

But hey. I'm looking for a lighter that I misplaced. Anyone comes across it, lemme know. Thanks.

[Through the afternoon and evening, Shikamaru can be found in various places around the village: digging through things in shops, searching through grass and shrubs and so on. He hasn't been around the village much in the last two days, busy elsewhere with his deer.

Now it almost seems like he's making up for it. One minute you might walk past him digging through the trash behind a building, only to go in to find he's inside already (probably asking if the place has a lost and found). Someone's busy.]

[Well now, fancy seeing mister quiz master here in the item shop. Pascal is just going to run full-belt towards Shikamaru, practically slam into the guy and give him a pat on the back.]

[And as frustrated as he is by this, normally he'd leave it at that. But well. Ikki. She has a good way of cheering him up. Her being the first to respond might inspire him to be more talkative too.]

...never thought Petunia would be so good at looking for things, though.

...Yeah, I don't think he would be! [ She sounds a very little less cheerful than usual, but is powering through it. ]

I think Soren's a lot better at it, though. An' he's always been good at knowing what I'm saying before now, so this shouldn't be any different than that! An' it'll give us both something to do.

[Slow as it's been going, this shadow clone training is proving useful. He might not be ready for combat, but he can cover twice as much ground looking for things. Shikamaru - or rather his clone here - reminds himself to thank Naruto for putting up with him later.

Browsing through a box of random trinkets, Shikamaru is sorting out things like keys and compact mirrors when he hears someone come up behind him. Then it's slam and--

--uh-oh.]

["Hey-o!" is the last thing he hears before the pat on the back takes him out and POOF. He disappears in a cloud of smoke, as if he were never there.

GOOD JOB PASCAL.]

[Toph notices Pineapple Head creeping around the bushes and trash. She doesn't say anything at first, instead just waiting to see what the heck it is he's even doing.

...What a weirdo.]

[--he picks up on that pretty easily.]

Soren? You watching him for Chien?

[Hey this is important stuff all right. He shakes around one small trash can, but stops when he hears something metallic. Fishes around-- just a soda can. Okay, moving on.]

[ She's quiet for a few minutes. ]

Ummm. Kinda? He came and found me earlier an' he brought the weird red thing-y and the ball thing-y an' brought me to Chien's room an' it was empty, an' calling him didn't work, so.

I think I calmed him down a bit though! Well, he's allowed to stay with us an' I'm giving him the top bunk of my bunk bed, and I asked Masaomi about what happens next.

[...oh. So it's that sort of thing, huh?]

Masaomi's really good at that sort of thing. He's only had Linda since February, you know?

I didn't know that! We just talked about her birthday once, I think, and what she can bend!

Aaaaaaaaanyway [ back to the topic that is not that topic ] Soren's got good eyes, so we'll both look around, 'kay? [ She half directs that away from her journal, and there's a muffled acknowledgement from her new companion. ]

That's nice of you guys. [Hi Soren, long time no see.] But seriously. You sure you're feeling okay, Ikki?

We're nice people! Right, Soren? [ Well, he's at least willing to go along with whatever she's doing. They've played around before, just always with Chien in tow. She'd never actually heard from Chien what he thought of her, but she'd considered Soren and Chien to be two of her best friends in Luceti - ranked equivalent to Vivi at six.

Somehow it was easier to brush off Asami and Zuko, who she'd see again someday in her own home, than it was to brush off people from other worlds she'd probably never see again.

She's trying to give an honest answer, because lying does not at all come naturally to Ikki, so she's thinking about it. ]

I kinda keep waiting for Soren to go and get Chien or for Chien to contact me, kinda like how it's weird to go by Uncle Zuko's room and have it be empty, but I don't think I'm not okay. ...Um, I mean, I'm prob'bly gonna miss him a lot, and I cried a little earlier at first when I found Katara, but it's okay 'cause Soren was sad too.

But he's one of my friends, y'know? So I think it's okay to be sad! It doesn't mean I'm not okay, 'cause there's plenty to be happy about, too. ...Well, not about a friend leaving, but y'know I heard about Halloween, and about caramel apples, and about little red riding hood, and about pirate history, and I'm going to get to meet someone named Sabo sometime, and he likes adventures and exploring, too!

Um, does that make sense? [ She's probably rambling a bit, but she tends to do that anyway. ]

[Silver probably falls under the "sulking and doing so quietly" category. Kind of. He's mostly just intensely confused and doesn't really want to think about what is or isn't or what could have been or what is all that much.

And he also doesn't want to check the journal for another ~~month~~ century, so whatever Shikamaru... Is doing... Is a mystery to him.

Seriously dude, what-] What are you looking for? [Oh look. Words!]

[... OKAY THAT WAS COOL. She didn't know she had magical turn-people-into-smoke powers today! Haha, awesome. You can come back out now Shikamaru.

Pascal waves her hands around to try and clear the smoke. Is there a Shikamaru hiding in there?! No. No there is not. Crap. Craaap. She can see it now, having to make a journal entry about how she accidentally turned someone into smoke. How can she possibly put a positive spin on that?! 'Whoopsie, I kinda touched a guy and he turned into smoke. The good news is if anyone ever needs a smoke machine then I'm your gal!' NO. THAT WON'T GO DOWN WELL.

There have to be jars around here somewhere. Maybe she can catch as much smoke as she can in a jar and work out a way to turn him back to normal later! Or maybe she can make a Shikarobo. Robomaru! BUT WHAT IF THE JAR AND ROBOT TURN INTO SMOKE TOO.

SHIKAMARU WHY. COME BACK.]

[So far Loki has no luck with finding a bus stop or a way out, yet it does not stop him from trying so.

But right now he is far from trying. He is sitting at the large fountain and watching at some guy digging in a trashcan.

Loki knows this, it is probably a Midgardian homeless person on a quest for food! And Loki happens to have a small bag of potatochips left...]

Cease one's rummaging through garbage. I have come with nutricious food to settle one's hunger, yes?

[A bag of chips is totally nutricious and he holds it out for the other.]

[Zoro's gonna find Shikamaru digging through the trash at one point. He'll watch a bit, maybe marvel at how concentrated he looks, before deciding that he should let the poor guy know:] The food's free here, y'know. If you go into the shops and ask, they'll probably just give you something.

[I know, I know. Crazy, right? But it's true.]

[...it's funny how this little girl can have more emotional maturity than half the people in this place. Himself included.]

Yeah. I get you. The world doesn't stop because you're missing someone.

[He misses home a lot sometimes. His parents, and Chouji. Asuma. Especially Asuma. His sensei leaving Luceti hurt almost as much as when he died. Masaomi was the one that made him realize he needed to focus on things here, on his friends who are alive, but there are still times when Shikamaru really wishes he could go to his old sensei for advice.

He can't believe he threw away that lighter.]

If you need to be sad for a little while longer, that's okay too, you know.

[HE'S ON HIS WAY, GOSH.

It takes a minute or two, however. The real Shikamaru was over at the Welcome Center at the time, checking the lost and found there, when he felt his clone pop. Wow, that memory trip is a little disorienting, but cool. He knows exactly where he was at - even if he's not sure what hit him. Sounded like a girl.

She can probably wait, right? From the casual way he was approached, he figures it must've been someone he knows well! In that case, they won't mind if he finishes up here. And even if he's mistaken, it's not like he's taking long.

And so about two minutes later, Shikamaru returns the lost and found box and heads across the path to the item shop. He opens the door, confident that all is probably well inside.]

'lo, Silver.

[Shikamaru pulls himself out of a bush at Silver's words - and seriously bro, what, he almost thought you were an imposter - probably brushing twigs and things out of his clothes.]

Already made the want ad on the journals.

[Shikamaru raises his head from the pile he's sorted out - metallic things like cans and melted down weapon pieces - from the refuse to see the newcomer. Oh jeez. What a mistake.]

It's fine. I'm actually--

[--know what. He'd really rather not walk all the way to the store, wasting time while he's in the middle of this. Well whatever. He could be mistaken for worse things.

Sigh. He shrugs.]

Sure. Why not, if you're not against sharing.

[Oh. A kid, huh?]

Yeah, sure. [He looks Shikamaru up and down. Judging you.] Aren't you too old to still be goin' through dumpsters?
