[The afternoon finds Shikamaru bundled up against the cold and out and about in parts of the village he won't normally be in. Wandering, it might look like; he drifts in and out of high-traffic areas like the bar and the item shop to places less visited. The coffee shop he'll be at for sure, and his final stop will be the building that was once Azzip's Pizza.

[Later in the afternoon, with dark still far off, the journal feed will click on to see Shikamaru surrounded by various colorful boxes among other things. He folds his hands over a table.]

It's come to my attention over the last few months that some of you have never heard of boardgames, or have otherwise never played. As a reasonable guy, I can let a lot of things go, but that... just seems sad.

[He shakes his head here. With woe, even. And then he gestures to the board games from various worlds strewn in the background. Close inspection will find a shogi set, a chess board, Go, Pai Sho, Plateau, Candy Land, Mouse Trap, Jumanji and so on. You can pretty much make up any family-friendly board game you want here and he will have it somehow. Go for it, actually. He hasn't played all of them.]

I'm here to tell you why they're awesome. [...] And possibly to petition for a partner. It's troublesome, but you'd be surprised how hard that is to accomplish here...

Katara. [Hint, hint.] Kotomi-chan. [Who he can't tease as well, so he'd best clarify:] If you're still up for that.

[He shakes himself with a grin, saluting at the journal with his left hand. He picks up the nearest game.] Anyways, let's get started. It goes like this...

[Much later in the night, after he's seen to everything he needs to, Shikamaru takes a box out of a drawer and goes outside. From it, he withdraws an origami hummingbird, and contemplates it slowly for a few quiet minutes.

When he's done, he holds it up at eye level and speaks seriously.]

It's about time we spoke again. Don't you think?

Just those? It's a pretty big building.

[Okay, think... Think] Man, that's a good question...

It could be an assortment of things. ...but then a game place might be overkill with the rec center.

Yeah, and a coffee or tea place would be redundant too. Hmmm...

There's already a market on food places too.

[The restaurant, the bakery; the bar has some snacks.]

Maybe a comic shop? Ora convenience store.

...that's not a bad spot, actually. We'd probably have to bring over everything ourselves, which would be troublesome. I definitely wouldn't be able to do it on my own.

Do you even know what a convenience store is?

[Handwave.] We have them in my world. Chouji and I used to play hooky and hang out there instead all the time when we were kids.

You're a terrible student, boss. I'm amazed you learned anyway.

I did the minimum.

[Man, he misses those days. Freaking nostalgia.]

Anyways. There'd still probably be room left over. It could be a lounge area. You could do your game there.

You mean, we could.

[HANDWAVE AGAIN.] Fine, fine.

So, how do you plan to set up a convenience store?

[endgames]

First the place will need to be gutted. I can find or make some shelving. Freezers will be tougher...

[There are other things they'll need to get, but he doesn't think any of them will be as difficult as that.]

I think there's a big one inside for where they kept ingredients. Maybe with some remodeling we can make use of that.

It'd be a shame to ignore this place's huge oven. Maybe we can use it for something.

I'm not much of a cook, so if you can think of something you're welcome to it.

[He's learned a lot about how to cook for himself and a few others, but not enough to do it all the time.]

[...] Man I don't want to do a big cooking thing.

We can come up with something later.

[It would be a waste to yank them out. Maybe someone else will come along with an idea.]

For now, I'll focus on what else needs to be done and in getting Toph to make a basement for it's other purpose.

So what, you and I are going to be hanging out in here, convenience store style from here on?

[endgames]

It probably won't take that much work.

[generalflirt]

Yeah, but to be a convenience store, doesn't someone need to be manning it? Or maybe some employees?

[endgames]

The grocery store is several times bigger. People walk in and take shit just fine.

[generalflirt]

But it's not a convenience store without either a bored looking twenty year old or a bade behind the counter asking if you want another egg.

I'll take a nap there from time to time, to complete the look.
