020 -- [Various Filters || Action]

[ooc: dated to... idk. When the moon is not noticeably freaky. ALSO. The cut below is there because there are over 30 filters beneath it that take up a ridiculous amount of space, wow. I think I got all of the characters who were dropped, but just PM me if I didn't. After the event is done, there will be an ooc post regarding this, but I needed to get this part out of the way while my character would think to do so.

A note on the filters below - italic text represents breaks in the filter.]

[Early in the morning, long before the sun has risen and while most people are likely to be asleep, several filters start going up one-by-one. The journal window is covered with cloth; the handwriting not recognizable. Almost immediately after each one has been made, they're either deconstructed or disappear behind a private filter, viewable only to himself. He has no interest in talking to any of these people - he's just checking for breaks in the filters, which are visible for a minute until they're quickly taken care of.]

[Private to Shikamaru || Fake Cut to spare your f-lists and eyes]

[Two hours after this ends, a certain entry disappears behind a private filter as well. Then Shikamaru rolls over and goes back to bed. Damn, that was troublesome. He'll deal with the rest later. With the stuff that new Malnosso guy was talking about, he had a lot of other things to think about....

The next afternoon, he writes a couple of quick messages before heading out of the apartment.]

[Filtered to Raine Sage || 100% Unhackable]

What we talked about - it's done. Figured you'd want a heads-up.

[Filtered to Konoha Shinobi, Gaara, and Temari || 100% Unhackable]

Looks like we don't have to worry about Sasuke. At least for now.

[Filtered to Tony Stark || 100% Unhackable]

I have something to give you. Where you want me to drop it off?

[After he's taken care of that business, Shikamaru decides to take the rest of the afternoon to train. Not his shadow jutsus, however. Those close enough to the southern edge of the village at the time may hear something a few times throughout the evening. Maybe like thunder, but definitely a-

BOOM.

...but don't worry, everything is under control. And for once, he isn't even joking. It's taken months for him to get this jutsu down - a lungful of ash just is not pleasant - but he's finally managed it.

If for some reason you're close to the Southern Lake at this time, or choose to investigate, you're bound to find one (1) Shikamaru Nara taking a break by the water and unable to wipe the smirk off of his face. The air still might smell faintly of ash, but he cleans up well. And nothing has been destroyed but the targets he brought out here himself.

It makes up for all the weirdness going on. Just a little.]

That's something I'm going to need to see more of the droid to pin down--and knowing the Malnosso, they aren't going to make it easy without being able to hack right into one of them to see what makes it tick. Shift technology-based, obviously. But if I could see what the power source actually was, we'd really be in business, then.

[He leans forward, tapping the drawing with a finger.] There's still a lot more I could figure out if I could dissect one of these things myself. But I can at least get an idea of the type of composition and structure the Mallies use in their tech. And the closer we are to cracking 'shift' technology, the closer we are to getting home.

Right-o. That's what they're guarding. Their most precious resource of power. Shift technology has to come from something. [It's behavior was completely unlike any sort of nuclear reaction he knew, and as much as he loathed to admit it, it outclassed his arc reactor in capability. It wasn't fission or fusion based power. Hell, for all he could work out, maybe it wasn't even chemical at all.] These will be helpful, but I'll have a hard time of reaching anything solid without taking down and dissecting one of these myself. Or learning more at the battle dome.

Well, not with that attitude.

[Though he won't admit it, he knows where Shikamaru is coming from. He's spent a lot of time in there already, and though he knew the layout by heart, the actual inner-workings of the system remained locked away.] You forget. I'm me. I'm pretty damn good at cracking these kinds of things.

[His expression hardly changes, still slightly amused and relaxed. He had his own hypotheses for why the Malnosso had probably given them the dome in the first place.]

You make a good point, kiddo--hm, I could really go for another cookie right now. Sure wish you'd brought more. Keep that in mind for next time, will you? If the Malnosso are gathering data about us when we use the dome, what, in your highly suspicious brain, do you think they're going to do with it? And don't even start with a clone theory. If they could use shifts to create soldiers, they wouldn't need us anymore.

[This is probably a good time to bring up that he proclaimed his secret identity to the whole wide world on television, isn't it.]

Maybe that's a good thing. Send them a statement that we're all not here just to be their guinea pigs. We should at least give them the opportunity to understand who they're dealing with, don't you?

[And he mostly means him, of course.]

[Sounds like a great sitcom, though!]

Besides, we won't know what they're really capable of unless we push them. Who knows? I'd like to think they're a lot less mighty than they make themselves out to be.

Are you sassing me, Shiko? Call me an idealist--actually, no, don't. But with the people gathered here, we just might be better than them. Consider it. Ponder it. Write a haiku about it. But apparently, we can only do what they can't do for themselves: fight their war. They need us. So even if they're studying us in the dome, what do you think they're going to do? Stop us from becoming better fighters?

[Oh, now that is an interesting piece of information he hasn't heard before. He had a similar conversation with Daisy awhile back, and she'd mentioned the faction, but not this little tidbit.]

Oh, well, then the hard part is already done. If we can figure out away to turn their missions against them, infiltrate their organization from the inside out, the rest will be easy, if they're already intimidated by us. Anytime someone has to set up precautions under that kind of duress, something always gets overlooked. It's just a matter of figuring out what.

...That, or I'll blow a hole through the barrier. That's still plan B.

It hasn't proved a very popular plan with the locals. Most seemed convinced there's something out there waiting to kill us just as soon as the barrier breaks.

[He doesn't buy this, of course. If they didn't get into Luceti through the enclosure itself, the bridge between worlds had to be outside somwhere.]

Oh, well, thanks for your permission. I was waiting for that--fine, that's not a problem. This information will stay away from Malnosso watch.

Great. Tell your artist friend kudos.

[MATURE. He'll take that rubber band, thank you very much. Shikamaru might see it again when he's least expecting it.]
