031 -- [Action | Voice]
[Today is an understated awesome day, ladies and gentleman. To everyone? Okay, maybe not. But Shikamaru sure is pleased as punch. After a month's stay in the Battle Dome clinic recoveries from the injuries he got in his fight with Hidan, Shikamaru's finally cleared to check out today.
Before he gets the all-clear, he can be found in - brace yourselves - one of the Dome's simulation rooms. He's actually been using them for the past week for his physical therapy. If he's going to be doing a lot of walking, might as well change up the scenery.
Namely, he's replicated parts of the Nara Clan's forest. At its opening, the sky is more open, but the further in you go the thicker the trees grow together. Wandering will reveal easter eggs - old statues, broken and ruined, or a path of moss-covered stone lanterns. Maybe a young deer if you're lucky.
Other parts of the forest seem to be swallowed by shadow completely, offering nothing but pitch black that no amount of light will ease and the sense you're being watched if you step into them.
He'll try and clear up some stuff with Law before he goes, but after that he hits the journal.]

For those of you who saw that Vaskoth place... I figure it's been long enough. Name something you liked about it, if you can recall.

The trees are grand here though with more space between them, and there's moss, soft on the ground.]

I was exaggerating. This is a section of the forest on my clan's land.
[This spot in particular is actually further out from his home, and Konoha. Two hours run, at least. But details.]

If you want to explore, go ahead. I programmed some mild traps here, to keep people from accidentally stumbling on the protected parts of our land. It should be good training for these guys.

...He looks at his three Pokémon before focusing his attention on Feraligatr and Murkrow.]
You two stay with him. [He and Sneasel are off to explore, brb.]

Meanwhile, those traps are pretty plain. The deer will become more defensive if they stray where they shouldn't be, namely those areas swallowed by shadows.
And as described in the meat of the post, just because you don't see anything if you go in doesn't mean nothing's there.
It's also easy to get lost here if you're not careful.]

The fact that wandering around aimlessly will most likely get him lost goes right over his head. He'd be pretty content to stay lost in a forest like this, provided that his presence doesn't rile up the deer.]

Now going into shadow places or not, the forest does get darker as it gets denser, the deeper therein you go. The ground is also sometimes uneven, leaving trenches. Trees grow even out of these, their roots huge and spilling out from under the earth.]

You think so too, right Sneasel?...
Some idle thought of returning to Shikamaru and his other Pokémon crosses his mind, but a few roots from a particularly old and large tree are big enough to venture under and just like that his attention span completely shifts back into marveling over the forest he's in.]
