[It's been a long time since Shikamaru's failed a mission. All right. Failure might be too strong a word for this one. He can actually laugh at that. This isn't like when he was twelve. It's a personal embarrassment, not something that's going to keep him up at night, sick to his stomach.

A failure is a failure though, and that makes it a pain in the ass. He'd apologized to the MSF personnel profusely, and requested to be put on a different mission to make up for the screw-up. They'd looked nonplussed about the whole thing and stuck him back in Luceti, but eh. Shikamaru decides to keep his journal close to him anyways, in case they take him up on that. It's for this reason he doesn't go out to do any of the things he probably should. He passes the time by flipping through the journal instead, and thinking over the last mission.]

[Voice]

When I first came to this village, I remember going out. Left or right, it seemed anywhere I looked someone was using that so-called "filial magic". ...Haaa. [He scratches his head, and there's a smirk in his voice.] That's an exaggeration, but you get it. That was years ago, though. It seemed like it was becoming less common until that incident last year, when everyone got possessed.

Anyone learning anything from those guys now? Seems like the kind of thing that would spark interest, especially with one extra spirit hanging around.

Yeah, but that many is too troublesome to keep up with. It was interesting getting to know the spirits, though. As well as one can, anyways.

[...Well, it makes sense. Learning from one spirit isn't too hard, but consistently listening to five or six at once sounds like too much to focus on and really get good at.]

Which ones have you kept in contact with?

Tsinku and Twila.

[feistytrader]

[Tsinku. That's... That's the electric one. Yeah.

And Twila's that newer one that Masaomi told him about.]

What's Twila's type? [...Element. Type. Same difference. He never got too many of the details on the new spirit, so now's a good a time as any to find out.]

[There's going to be a snicker at that. Maybe two. He reels it in though.]

Dark type.

[That was the one Silver told him about a long while back, wasn't it? That time at the battle dome. He's pretty sure.]

[Hey hey don't make fun of- oh.]

That explains why you get along with it. [If he had to translate Shikamaru's abilities into Pokémon, it would definitely be somewhere between Dark-type and Ghost-type. Or you know, plain old "shadowy stuff" works too.]

Why Tsinku?

[He shrugs.]

I find him interesting. We get along.

He's the electric one, right? What's he like?

Aa... [He whistles through his teeth, trying to think of how to describe it.] He's brash. Real smart though. He's one of the few that actually feels old to me, even if all of them have been around here forever.

[That's strange. Of all the things he'd think some electric spirit would be like, old definitely isn't one of them.]

How so?

I dunno. Being in his presence is just like... It's like being around an old geezer with weathered hands. He's gruff, and set in his ways, but you get the feeling he's gone through many things to get hands like that. That maybe he's a little wiser than you first thought.
