Here's a question. If you're in hell and you get pissed off at somebody, where do you tell them to go to?

[Shikamaru's been a busy guy lately. There's been a lot of details to go over with the draft, as well as outlining strategies, and there's still more to come. A question un-battle related seemed like a good distraction.

But duty calls, and he can only put it off for so long.]

In case I missed anyone at the meeting, we're getting in some practice tomorrow. Come prepared; we'll meet at the barracks around noon.

[...someone else is getting a more personal invite, though that's not going to be the only thing they discuss. He's put off talking to her long enough, as it is. So Temari, if you're home, there's an idiot knocking on your door again.]

[ooc: by the magic of bending time and space, anyone from the Shifter Hunting group on the draft will have met Shikamaru at the meeting at the barracks. Anyone who's seriously interested about being a reserve member is included in this too. I'll have a free-for-all log up later where the team can interact with each other for the first time, though that can also be assumed if you have no time to tag.]

[She's home. She doesn't particularly want to acknowledge that she's home, but she's not quite that irresponsible. Temari opens the door, sees that it's Shikamaru, and promptly winces a little.

But when she steps back, she leaves the door open. They have a draft to talk about. She'll put aside most anything to make sure they figure out how to come back alive.]

[He keeps his face passive - tries to, at least. Not a good start, though he's likely thinking so for the wrong reasons.

Just like that though, his carefully planned speech rests useless at his feet. He nods at her and steps in, shutting the door behind him.]

[Okay, door's shut. He's here. Silence is reigning.

... One of them should obviously start talking.]

Hey.

[One word's a start.]

Hey. [Right. Talking is good.] ...how've you been?

[How has she been? Like shit, thank you. The Malnosso, once again, messed with her mind. It's been great. Best thing ever. What the hell are you on, asking such a damned stupid question.]

Never would've guessed.

[It's not like any of his other questions could've been better - not without jumping straight into the draft discussions and he's not sure if they can actually do that at this point. "How've you been" was the safest one, all things considered.]

Look, about what happened. [He sighs.] Could we just sweep it under the rug?

[Because you didn't have much respect for him before this. Why would you after?]

[You just know the absolute right thing to say, don't you, Nara? Temari stills and mouths sweep it under the rug.

Right. Because forgetting what they did to her is best. Forgetting that he must have absolutely no respect left for her is gonna fly. She's been so pissed off she can hardly function since this ended and he wants to sweep it under the rug.

Like. Hell.]

[He puts a hand to his forehead; reminds himself to relax. Resigned:] ...all right. So we're talking about it then.

[Shikamaru wishes just once they could do things the easy way. He should know by now that it won't happen - not with her in the equation.]

[Oh. He gave up rather easily there. Temari blinks, starts to respond, and just closes her mouth again.

Now she doesn't even know what to say.

Excuse her while she abruptly turns away and walks further into the apartment. She's going to be comfortable for this not-conversation they're having and that means sitting down on the damned couch.]

[Shikamaru will follow again after a moment. He doesn't sit - hasn't been invited and doesn't know if he has that right anymore - just stands in front of her with his hands in his pockets.

He's not going to be one to comment first. But he's waiting.]

[You're a bastard, Nara Shikamaru, making her figure out how to start this.]

They messed with my mind. Again.

[She's a ninja. Trained to figure out and combat deceit. And she just. keeps. falling for it.]

[The way he sees it, it was only fair. You're the one who wanted to do this.

...though her answer makes him quiet for another reason entirely. Much as he doesn't know where they stand right now, he's sorry she had to have that happen to her again.]

Seems to be a favorite tactic of theirs. Not just for you, either.
