006 -- [Action || Voice]

[It is a rare thing to catch Shikamaru out of bed before noon, much less wandering around the western side of Luceti's forest when it's so freaking cold out.

Then again, it's not every day that he's been told that there's a possibility the village might find itself resembling some kid's aquarium If Things Do Not Go As Planned even if we ooc-ly know they will, more or less. Despite being told like everyone else that there's nothing anyone can do to prevent it if something goes wrong, waiting for the inevitable just feels like a death sentence. There's being lazy, and then there's being stupid.

Feel free to bump into him if you're out that way yourself. When he's finished, he'll head back towards town, hands stuffed in his pockets. He throws up a voice post on his way.]

Anyone here good at digging holes? [That came out a bit sarcastically - it's early. Okay, but seriously:] Or better yet, skills for manipulating the earth.

[Once that's done, Shikamaru takes some time to track down his fellow ninja before heading of towards the Avatar House.

And then, a filtered message that was here the whole time.]

[Filtered to Trafalgar Law || 100% Unhackable]

I'd like to talk to you about some things, if you're up for it.

[From what he gleaned of your conversation with Catherine, you have a better understanding of the way tsunamis work. Understandable, for a pirate. And while he can come to his own conclusions, it's not a substitute for someone who knows what they're talking about.]

Most things here are troublesome. Can't avoid them all, but of them, that's one I'd put on the top of my list of things not to experience.

...

... [Thinking quietly about this for a long while] As a submarine captain, I know this would only work if certain conditions were met, and even then it would be extremely risky.

One, [Raising one finger] this sanctuary would have to be waterproof. If the water follows us down, there's no point.

Two, [Raising a second] we'll need enough air and something to scrub it clean and keep it clean. Many bodies will produce enough carbon dioxide to quickly make things unbreathable if proper measures aren't taken.

Three, [Third finger] it needs to be large enough to hold all the people of the village who will come.

Four, [Fourth finger] we'll need proper provisions to care for the villagers while down there. Food, water, medicine, other necessities. We'll need to ration, especially if things drag on. We'll need to keep things sanitary, as the longer people are kept in close quarters, the greater the chance for disease.

Five, [Fifth fingth, one whole hand] the psychological impact of this whole ordeal can't be underestimated, especially as claustrophobia comes into play. Not all the villagers play nice together, and this ordeal will aggravate existing tensions. Petty squabbles could turn into riots. There would have to be crowd control, and people doing it that could keep their heads during it all while being able to quell any problems that could arise.

Six, [Next finger] we need a way to tell when the danger has past and we can emerge.

Finally, seven. [Last finger] We'll need to find a safe way out. Our way in might not exist anymore or be blocked. So a safe mass escape will be needed. Otherwise that santuary may as well be our tomb.

Anything would be helpful. [Refilling his cup and warming up yours] Especially a psychiatrist. Even if trouble can't be avoided, the more eyes that know what danger signs to look for in people under that kind of stress, the better. It should curtail most of it.

[A small smile. He knows who you're talking about.] Katara, right? She would be the one to talk to about this. I imagine she would also know if there are any other elemental manipulators in Luceti of the scale we require.

The second one is the sticking point. I imagine the village has people from environments where such things are a necessity, and there must be people with the technical expertise to pull it off. But, it is as you said, Luceti has limited materials and the time we're working with is not favorable. And engineering is not one of my areas of expertise, and I don't know many of the new inhabitants here. It may take soliciting the population at large to make any headway in answering that question if it could be done, and that may tip off our gracious hosts that something is up.

...

Hmm. As for doctors, there are some, definately. I fill the role of ship's doctor as well as being captain, and Chopper of the Strawhat Pirates is still here, as far as I know. There must be still some of the people who fill in at the clinic left here as well. Even if they aren't doctors, medical skills are medical skills, and any help is better than none.
