Hi. [The journal feed starts unceremoniously.] Noticed the village is getting back into the swing of things. Either that or those who are sulking are doing so more quietly. Good luck with that, whichever.

But hey. I'm looking for a lighter that I misplaced. Anyone comes across it, lemme know. Thanks.

[Through the afternoon and evening, Shikamaru can be found in various places around the village: digging through things in shops, searching through grass and shrubs and so on. He hasn't been around the village much in the last two days, busy elsewhere with his deer.

Now it almost seems like he's making up for it. One minute you might walk past him digging through the trash behind a building, only to go in to find he's inside already (probably asking if the place has a lost and found). Someone's busy.]

It wasn't where I thought it'd be, so.

Oh. Yeah, what does happen to things that get lost here? Unless it just goes back home? [Which would mean it was safe. But Aang knows that if it's like Katara's necklace, Shikamaru would feel better having it near.] I can check the lost and found at the Welcome Center later if it doesn't turn up here.

I was there before this. [Offhanded, as he switches bins again. That one didn't have much in it.] I assume anything not in garbage bins sticks around.

Oh, sorry. [This really must have been some search.] I guess not. The garbages become empty every now and then, but I never see anyone take them away. I don't know where it goes.

I sat and watched the one in the bathroom once. My bet is a Shift.

That'd make sense, that is how they do... pretty much everything else. But if they Shift garbage back here... then that'd be really gross.

[He stops in his sorting long enough to give Aang a baffled look.]

Why would they do that?

I don't know why they would, I just thought that if you think it was in a garbage but it's actually here... then that's where they'd Shift it. Otherwise... I don't think there's anywhere inside Luceti where garbage would wind up.

Aa. [Yeah. He has been unclear on things. He goes back to business.]

I don't know where it is. In light of that, I'm not being picky in where I look.

I understand. I'd look anywhere if I lost something really special to me. [A beat.] Except maybe a toilet.

Ha. There are places that could be more awkward.

I'm not sure if I wanna know...

I won't spoil it.

[And it's at this point that another Shikamaru comes walking out of one of the back rooms.

"Yo, boss. Still no dice."]

[Aang jumps to attention, pointing at the other Shikamaru, clearly losing it.]

What? What? What?!

[The other Shikamaru waves, chill as can be. "Hey."]

Doing all right there, Aang?

Shikamaru, two! Two you! Two yous! Did you... you-bend?!

[....

The pair look at each other, and simultaneously shrug. Shikamaru turns back to Aang.]

In a sense.

H-how?!

[The clone fields this one, wagging a finger.]

Ninja. [THE THRILL. THE MYSTERY. THE- ah it's not that great.] All you need to know is I'm not long for here.

[He tilts his head back to Shikamaru.] You're as worn out as I am, right?

[Yep. Cheaters alright. But Aang is too baffled to try to bring that up.]

Are you gonna be okay?

[Shikamaru nods, quietly admitting to his own weakness. This is the longest he's maintained a clone though, so it's still something to be proud of. He lets the clone do the talking again.]

We're fine. Doing this is troublesome, is the thing. Takes more energy than the boss is used to.

[And with that, the clone waves before bring his hands up to dispel himself.]

[It's still a big shock for a Shikamaru to disappear.]

Shikamaru!

[That doesn't feel a hundred percent better - the clone was working too - but it is more comfortable. Shikamaru sags a little, but seems unbothered.]

Don't sweat it, Aang. He was a Shadow Clone. That's what they do.

A... Shadow Clone? Is that like one of your shadow abilities? [He hasn't learned much about Shikamaru's shadowbending, actually, aside from it's ability to make puppet shows. But for now he's mostly concerned about whether or not a sentient life was just extinguished.]

Not quite. A friend who is much better at using them is teaching me.

[Shikamaru will probably catch onto that later. Clones are a basic feat of their world, in the milder version.]
