023 -- [Accidental Post]

[Earlier, when looking through his father’s book for the first time in several months, Shikamaru found some pictures he’d never seen before being used as bookmarks. It was… nostalgic, to say the least.

He finds another bookmark to replace them; puts the photos in a drawer to look at later. Because haha, he knows how this works, right? He leaves them out, and somehow his journal accidentally records it. Yeah. Hell no. He’s smarter than that and doesn’t leave his journal anywhere near them. On top of that, he takes it with him when he leaves to assist with a chakra training lesson. Crisis averted!

Guess what he sees when he opens up his journal two hours later.

Where’s the nearest wall. He needs to beat his head softly against it while he attempts to figure out how this happened. Feel free to action it up when he’s back at CH1 too, if you like.]

Clouds look really fluffy, Yotsuba bets they taste nice on sticks. C for cloud? And candy!

Sorry. Those 'c's are funny though, huh? They don't sound right in words like cloud or candy.

Huh? C... Seeeeee. Oh, but clouds don't sound like that, if they did they would be slouds! And sandy, we're not at the beach!! They sound like king, right?! [Oh, there's an idea.] Is there a k?!

But is that king supposed to be as in royalty, of the game piece?

Yotsuba is good, another letter! [Yaaay~]

Ohhh Yotsuba meant the king like the king who has a prince and a pretty queen and rules over places. And he might have a beard too. There are games with kings?

Again with the beards...

Aa. A 'king' is the most important piece in one of my favorite games: shogi.

Yotsuba has never played that game before, if it has kings then it must be fun. Tell me more about it! [As for a letter:] Sho... Oh, it's a shhh sound like sheep! S! Is there a s somewhere?

It's a strategy game. It's a lot like... aa. There's a game similar to it, but you probably haven't heard of chess either, huh?

Nope! Yotsuba hasn't heard of either of those games. I've played snakes and ladders though, that's fun and a little scary.

No Z. And hmm. In that case, you might not like shogi. To a kid, it might feel long and boring.

Boring stuff isn't fun, it's boring. Yotsuba might like it though if there are kings in it, queens too.

And I dunno. You'd probably like chess more then. Their pieces are more interesting to look at than shogi tiles, and they do have a queen.

My favorite piece has always been the knight, which is in both games. Aa. In chess, it looks like a horse.

[She copies the same pose and forms an X as well before responding.] Chess doesn't use dice? Aa. That's interesting. [Copying stuff is fun.]

Are there cows and sheep too if there or horses? Aa, Yotsuba picks m for my.

[A thumbs-up at the journal window, and there goes an m written down.]

Not in chess, no. Besides the king and the queens, there are pawns. Those are like small soldiers.

Then there's the castle piece, called the rook, and... I don't know what the other piece is supposed to look like, but it's called a bishop.

Prawn soldiers?! [Sounds delicious.]

So all the prawns, the horses and the king and queen live in the rooks! And no one knows what the bishops look like because they're a mystery. That's a good story!

[All this talk of prawns is going to end up making her hungry.]

'fraid not. And now you're making me hungry.

When Yotsuba gets your name let's go eat prawns. Prawns sound really good now, mm!
