Hi. [The journal feed starts unceremoniously.] Noticed the village is getting back into the swing of things. Either that or those who are sulking are doing so more quietly. Good luck with that, whichever.

But hey. I'm looking for a lighter that I misplaced. Anyone comes across it, lemme know. Thanks.

[Through the afternoon and evening, Shikamaru can be found in various places around the village: digging through things in shops, searching through grass and shrubs and so on. He hasn't been around the village much in the last two days, busy elsewhere with his deer.

Now it almost seems like he's making up for it. One minute you might walk past him digging through the trash behind a building, only to go in to find he's inside already (probably asking if the place has a lost and found). Someone's busy.]

[Silver probably falls under the "sulking and doing so quietly" category. Kind of. He's mostly just intensely confused and doesn't really want to think about what is or isn't or what could have been or what is all that much.

And he also doesn't want to check the journal for another ~~month~~ century, so whatever Shikamaru... Is doing... Is a mystery to him.

[Shikamaru pulls himself out of a bush at Silver's words - and seriously bro, what, he almost thought you were an imposter - probably brushing twigs and things out of his clothes.]

Already made the want ad on the journals.

My journal's at home. [So instead of making him go all the way home to get his journal and read it and come all the way back, it would be cool if you could just tell him.]

[Not even explaining that. It should be an obvious safety thing bro.]

[That said, he moves on to the next area. He skips over the grass, knowing full well Rikumaru would've found it if it had been there.]

Lost my lighter.

[And he usually does, but if he sees another person talking about what last happened, he is going to throw it at someone.

-Lighter. His... That lighter that he showed him when he was a little kid. ...Yeah, that one. He remembers that.

Good, he remembers it. There's no need to question its importance.] Where have you looked?

The apartment. Town. Around.

[For the past two days. ...worth noting he's been digging through the trash so he probably smells.]

Rikumaru's checked too. [He jerks a thumb deeper in the woods. You can't see him, but the deer is there.]

[The apartment, town, around... If Rikamaru's checked, then... Hmm...

...Wait a minute, he's got it.

Come on out, Murkrow.] You wanna help us find his lighter?

[Shikamaru's mostly expanded his search out of desperation, hence why he was in town earlier. Coming back here, to the place he was sure it'd be even though it's been checked so throughly, was a train running out of steam.

...but he hasn't checked from up there. Actually, he has no idea how one could spot anything up so high, even with a bird's eye view, but he remembers how Murkrow reacted to his forehead protector. He can let himself believe the Pokemon will zero in on shiny like a kid does to candy. He slows down in his search to look over his shoulder at them. See if Murkrow's up for it.]

[Murkrow doesn't have the super fantastic sight that some Pokémon do, but he does have good sight. Great sight.

Sight enough to notice that shiny thing over in that random direction which he is currently zooming right over to because shiiiny.]

[He glances at Silver.]

Sure this will work?

Not at all. [But he goes to follow his bird anyway.]

Filled with confidence.

[He trails after.]

It's not like you have any better ideas.

I'm coming along, aren't I?

[Slightly less chill than usual. More sarcastic.]

The longer you leave him with your lighter, the more likely he is to fight you for it.

[So that's a yes. Let's go.]

That was rhetoric.

[BUT SURE. THIS WAY THEN.]

[AND THEN THEY FOLLOWED THE CRAZY BIRD. And soon enough, he stops at a tree. He seems to have kicked the inhabitant of some other bird out of their nest in favor of getting the shiny thing near it.]

[Shikamaru watches the other bird squawk indignantly with little to no empathy. His attention is otherwise sharply focused on the nest... even as he's trying not to get his hopes up.]

[And he fetches the shiny thing in his beak and drops it down for Silver to catch! It's... It's...!

...Some ring. But Murkrow immediately starts flying to another tree. Apparently there are several shiny things in this forest.]

[IT'S OKAY. NOT LIKE HIS HEART DROPPED LIKE A STONE OR ANYTHING.

Shikamaru follows along again, about as quiet as... well, like Silver any day of the week, so they're all probably right at home. 8|]

[This time, Murkrow doesn't even bother to look at it or toss it down. He just kicks some half broken geode with nothing particularly outstanding at Silver, who almost gets a face full of rock I mean come on seriously Murkrow--

Tooo the next tree. Come on, Shikamaru, you've been looking through everything under the sun for this thing. At least look a little less dejected.]

[Other than the fact that he's learning the birds in this forest must be more like pack rats... not so much. Because he still hasn't found it.

It was Asuma's. It was one of the few things he has left of his sensei - gone twice now - and he threw it away. Like it had no meaning.]

[The third time, A rather large Owl rests in a hole in a tree. Murkrow gives the owl a funny look for a minute before slamming the tree with his head, shaking the entire thing and sending the owl out in an angry rage. He grabs something from her nest in his beak before engaging the other bird in a fight- remembering to have some semblance of self control so he doesn't kill her because seriously he's not here to smash things, just find shiny things- until the owl has given up and goes back to her nest.

From there, he struts over to Shikamaru and Silver. This time... This time he indeed holds a lighter in his beak.]

[If anyone were to pass by, these scenes would probably look hilarious. Bird battle, and no fucks were given.

This time though does stir some legit reaction out of Shikamaru. What Murkrow's holding is the right size, but is it his lighter??]
