Since Shikamaru has several abilities and skill that have the potential to get godmoddy, I figured it would be a good idea to get a permission's post up an running. This is actually a permissions for two separate things, so sorry if this gets lengthy!
Part 1
First and foremost, Shikamaru is a genius, with an IQ measuring at overnine thousand two hundred points. His skills lie chiefly in strategy and information gathering, with the latter of the two often happening at a glance. He's hyper-observant when it comes to people and places, and remembers everything he sees. While he may not end up actually doing anything with what he picks up, you can bet he catalogues everything he learns. Anything can come in handy later on, and the way he predicts his opponents often comes back to those little details. Hence why he's such a good strategist!
Also, the journaling system is a lazy ninja's best friend: Information at his fingertips, and he doesn't even have to get out of bed for it. Filters will be nothing more than puzzles to solve, so he'll be hacking anything under 100%. All in all, this means he may learn things about your characters that they might not want him to. As with anything else though, he may not use any of the information he picks up, but it'll definitely be sitting somewhere in the back of his head.

What can Shikamaru learn about your character? On or off the journals - from body language to general eavesdropping. Be as broad or as vague as you see fit - someone like Luffy, for example, would be much easier to read than Batman. Let me know where my boundaries lie.
Can he hack their filters? Self-explanatory. If your character filters anything at 100%, it's probably safe.

Over the years, he's gotten to the point where he can make it solid enough to pick up objects, stab, or strangle people. For those more offensive techniques I just listed, I would probably contact muns OOC before even utilizing them, so I'm not going to go into too much detail with that here. Honestly, he'll try his best not to use his abilities at all if he can help it - they're hard to maintain and once you've seen them a few times, they're easy to figure out.
However, there is one move that runs a higher chance of him using, depending on the circumstances.
Kagemane no Jutsu, also known as Shadow Imitation. Fandom: (in the same order) Vocaloid, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, One Piece, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Saint Seiya
What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Out of my five chars the only char he probably won't be able to read much regarding body language, expressions and such is Mammon, mostly due how it covers its face and always wears blank long cloaks. In fact Mammon is such a mystery that even its gender is unknown, though for personal preference I use female pronouns I do try to play it asexually.
Regarding the rest, Ikki is the second most closed off one, though unlike with Mammon his distance probably tells lots of him. Shikamaru is free to pick up the most obvious things for perceptive people, like that there's a lot of anger and hate in him but none of it seems directed to something in special or in general. He's also free to notice that despite being not very talkative and distant he doesn't push off people actively until he's really fed up with them. Honestly it's hard to say what Shikamaru can deduce from Ikki in general just from observation, it also depends on how much Shikamaru wants to bother thinking about it with. Oh, and currently Ikki is working on a non-journal basis, because he ignores it and doesn't even know in which corner of his apartment it is.
The other three are pretty open, though Boa Hancock's body language isn't an honest one so Shikamaru may not be able to find out much about her real self just from it. Similar thing happens with Luka, she's an android but that can't be noticed just by general observation.
Can he hack their filters?
As I said Ikki doesn't wotk with a journal so for now this gets a N/A from him.
Regarding the others, only Mammon and Luka can do 100% filters, those things are usually noted, if not assume they aren't 100% anyway. Shikamaru is free to hack but don't expect my chars to appreciate it if they find out about it.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them?
All my chars have perfectly working shadows. Except Mammon, who is a special case as it is a high class physic and uses illusions with great ease, so Shikamaru may very well be trapped in an illusion and be trying to control a mailbox basically. Though that would be talked before hand, anyway for theory and starters, yes, he can.
If yes, what is he allowed to do?
Anything and everything, honestly I can't think of anything he couldn't do.
How strong is this character?
From the strongest to the weakest physically: Ikki - Boa Hancock - Luka - Keiichi - Mammon
Ikki and Boa are very strong. The other three are mostly human possible strength except that Luka's skeleton is made of a special metal alloy so even if her strength isn't much it would still hurt if she slapped him. But regarding the hold of the Kagemane the only ones who would give Shikamaru a lot of problems would be Ikki and Boa. Specially Ikki.
Anything else?
Not much. Mammon is a telepath too but that rarely pops around because it prefers to not use it, if it ever came to want to use it I would discuss it first so no worries there. Oh, Ikki has a permissions post here, nothing great but it would make things easier for me if you could check it. In advance I'll say that I don't think that Cosmos influences much on Naruto's ninja jutsu's

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Probably only those that are mentioned in public? Ted doesn't really say much about himself to anyone he doesn't trust, Shirayuki is mostly an open book if people ask her things she's not afraid to talk about, and Razette is... Razette.

Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Sure /o/
If yes, what is he allowed to do? Lol, embarrass Ted if you want, but the other two mostly freezing I guess since they're not technically harmful people.
How strong is this character? Ted's really good with magic and archery, and he can learn how to use any weapon simply by acquiring it (from years of having to protect himself, according to him), but he has weak defense and evasion skills. Shirayuki and Razette are non-fighters.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Katara should be an open book to him, really. She's very unguarded, she trains out in the open, and pretty much always says what she thinks. On the other hand, her attacks are pretty unpredictable and though the handmovements give some of it away... it might take him all of thirty seconds to adjust, unless he spends time watching her practice, in which case I sure hope she's packing a whole lot of water. =/
Matsumoto's reactions are a lot harder to read - she's got a ton of facets and all of them are genuine. Not even her captain has a full read on the most important things to her - namely Gin. In a fight, though, she has all the regular tells of a highly trained combatant - he should catch on to those fairly quickly.
Can he hack their filters?
Anything short of 'unhackable' or 'private' because they are both capable of 100 percent filters at this time - have at it!
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them?
Nothing prevents it!
If yes, what is he allowed to do?
Let's discuss that should the situation ever arise, yeah? Off-hand, anything short of death or attacking someone else.
How strong is this character?
Matsumoto is ridiculously shounen strong. She'd be able to fight it off pretty quickly.
Katara is your average trained and fit 15 year old.

Character: Miu Matsuoka (
Fandom: Respectively: Strawberry Marshmallow, Glee, Disgaea, Suikoden
What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Miu will be the easiest to learn about, mostly since she's loud and can talk to herself. Emma rarely leaves and gets social, so only things over the journal unless they meet in person. He's free to pick up on her fear of germs and dirt and icky things then. As for Etna...well, she's loud, but she's very clever, so he probably won't learn much from her. Bob isn't very smart, go nuts on watching him.
Can he hack their filters? If they have a percentage (such as 80% Unhackable), then feel free. If I don't mention one or forget to, then no.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Not on Emma.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? He can make a fool out of them! He can attack them! They're strong (or strong-willed in Miu's case).
How strong is this character? Etna is very strong, so she'd be difficult to maintain. Bob is also strong, but not nearly as much as Etna, and Miu is just weak.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? It'll be very difficult for him to learn about both my characters, but for sure he can find out that Blue is a Pokémon trainer who uses Pokémon. And as for Botan, she's pretty much...a normal person? OH, and he'll probably get a whole bunch of false info on Blue if he tries to find some things. She's pretty much a troll.
Can he hack their filters? On Botan's, yes! For Blue, only if it's a percent or filtered from somebody.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Just not on Botan.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? Anything but killing!
How strong is this character? Blue is very strong willed and if she is controlled herself, she'll obviously have her Pokémon attack for her. Which makes her pretty much useless to control when in battle.

Fandom: Tales of the Abyss | Original Character
What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Ion can be read like a book, mainly because he really has nothing to hide. He's kind and a little too trusting, as well as physically frail and weak. At the same time, however, he can be strong-willed, and he acts much older than he looks (despite being much younger than he looks).
Cheyenne is much harder to read, seeing as her emotions are so muted and she always wears a blindfold to hide her eyes. She's not going to be very secretive about what she is, so I imagine he'll find out sooner or later that she's a little girl who eats souls. :|b
Can he hack their filters? Yes to both. They both suck at filters.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Yes to both. I imagine it'll come in handy for Cheyenne, since she's the only one you'd have to worry about.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? The only thing I ask is not to do anything that were permanently disfigure them. I specify this because Cheyenne's power can only be used through her eyes, but technically without them, she'll starve to death. And that's not cool. 3:
How strong is this character? Neither are very physically strong, what with Ion having a weak body and Cheyenne being a little girl with evil powers.

Since Cheyenne is an OC, she'll have a Permission post up soon explaining her own powers, most of which will have information that Shikamaru will have permission to figure out as well!

Character: Usopp, Hughes, Casey, Chouji and Hijikata *cough*
Fandom: One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, TMNT, Naruto, Peacemaker Kurogane
What can Shikamaru learn about this character? I'm pretty open on this, actually. He already knows like, everything about Chouji. Usopp, Casey and yes, even Hughes are pretty much open books when it comes down to it. Hijikata...is probably harder to read than the others, but definitely never has problems letting on that something's annoying or whatever. We can always talk stuff out OOC, really.
Can he hack their filters? Sure! Usopp has finally made his way up to 100% by now, though, so I guess not him >3>
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Naturally.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? I'm also pretty open on this one, though I would kind of prefer to keep Hijikata out of the realms of humiliation. He wouldn't take it well.
How strong is this character? WELL. Usopp, as you know, has pitiful noodly strength and typically relies on running. Strength of will doesn't do much of anything against shadows being possessed and all.
Hughes, Casey and Hijikata are pretty average, too. They're fit men in their mid-to-late twenties who are trained for combat, but the jutsu would probably overpower that.
And, well, Chouji does have his strength and all. But he probably wouldn't use it against Shikamaru most of the time simply because it's Shikamaru. If there's a point where they're not just testing limits or something, we can also talk about that OOC.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Anything anyone posts unfiltered or under a filter that isn't 100%. It's all fair game, really.
Can he hack their filters? Yep.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Yep!
If yes, what is he allowed to do? Anything he wants to do when he catches them.
How strong is this character? Flynn is strong, but he's not ridiculously so. Think of something like a typical RPG mage knight, or something along those lines.
Irvine isn't physically strong, since he's a sharpshooter. Being the ranged type of guy, you know how that goes. :|;
Naruto's pretty far back in canon, so he's during his Sage training. So he wouldn't be as strong as he could be given canon. Since he doesn't have mastery over Sage Mode/cannot use it in Luceti, Shikamaru would probably have an easier time keeping him under control. Does that make sense?
And for Ragna, the dude is pretty damn strong. Not only that, but his Azure Grimoire just pretty much makes him even stronger. I mean, the guy can uppercut a giant magnetic eight foot tall badass into the sky with one arm. |D Considering that he can also probably activate the Grimoire (ie. Blood Kain) itself without having to move, keeping him under Kagemane might be a bit of a problem.

Fandom: Suikoden V, Suikoden IV
What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Both of them don’t have much in the way of secrets. The only thing I can think of that would come up not plot related is that Frey is royalty, has a few self esteem issues, and a lot of battle experience for a 16 year old prince. He has been fighting in a war for the past year or so, so take from that what you will.
Aldo is an open book, and has no need whatsoever to keep secrets.
Can he hack their filters? Sure? Both aren’t that good with filters, so anything needing extreme secrecy would probably be conveyed in person rather then over the journals.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Sure~
If yes, what is he allowed to do? They aren’t going to be attacking people, but you can feel free to troll them if you want.
How strong is this character? Frey is actually quite strong for his build and age, and is both a skilled magic user and staff/nunchaku fighter.
Aldo is a moderately strong archer with some healing magic.
Anything else? Nope~!

What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Anything found on the journals that's not filtered 100%. :|b In terms of body language, he's not going to be able to pick up much - she barely shows any emotion at all as long as she's in Murakumo mode, and while she's a lot easier to read in yandere mode, she only lapses into that around certain people.
...On that note, she'll probably catch on if he's eavesdropping on her. She's pretty observant. Comes with the whole "weapon created to guard the Sheol Gate" thing.
Can he hack their filters?
Anything not filtered 100% is fair game, though if Nu finds out that he's hacking her filters, odds are high that she won't react particularly well.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them?
I don't see why not, so... sure!
If yes, what is he allowed to do?
I'd... prefer to talk this over when it actually comes up, but in general I'm fine with anything as long as it's not going to lead to her getting herself fatally injured or ending up with, say, a few broken bones or something.
How strong is this character?
Let's see. She's strong enough to easily get up again after being slashed, frozen and stabbed repeatedly, has no trouble carrying the 78kg-heavy Ragna around, and she's generally considered one of the strongest characters in her canon. Not to mention that like Ragna, she has an Azure Grimoire.
...She's a final boss for a reason, really. Keeping her under the Kagemane no Jutsu would probably be fairly difficult, I think.

Character: Link (
Fandom: Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time and Spirit Tracks, respectively.
What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Link? Basically wears his heart on his sleeve, so he'd be... very easy to read. He's generally cheerful, acts a lot younger than he appears to be (because, essentially, he is - sleeping for seven years resulted in him being an eleven-year-old in an eighteen-year-old's body, basically), does have pensive moments - he wouldn't say what he's being pensive about, but it'd be pretty obvious what he's feeling.
Zelda is a little more closed-off, given her upbringing. She's pretty good at putting up a calm, dignified facade, but that usually doesn't last long and reveals her to be more... enthusiastic and gung-ho, really. Her body language could be pretty evasive, sometimes - she'd be trying to prevent people from realising she's a princess, for instance.
Can he hack their filters? Pfft, what filters? Link never bothers to use them, Zelda might learn but probably wouldn't use them anyway. (But he's still welcome to hack, if she does learn.)
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? ...Probably. Although, it's worth noting - both Link and Zelda have abilities that might make it sort of harder for shadow stuff to get a grip on them. Link has the Triforce of Courage (in Twilight Princess, the Triforce is what stops that version of Link from transforming into a monster or a ghost when he's dragged into the Twilight, so you could extrapolate from that that it prevents corruption, somehow?), and Zelda's body contains 'the sacred power of the spirits'. This DOESN'T prevent possession - that's sort of the point of the game - but it might be harder for him to hold her for long.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? Uh, preferably nothing too embarrassing or painful. Ask me first (in an OOC note or something) and let me know what you have in mind if you plan to do this?
How strong is this character? For Zelda, she's a thirteen-year-old girl with no combat training - the only thing really protecting her is her magic. Link? Fair bit stronger. He's the Hero of Time and manages to take down Ganondorf (who, with the Triforce of Power, has a fragment of the strength of the Goddess of Power). Combined with the Triforce of Courage, I'm not sure how long Shikamaru could hold him.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Alf's body language and behavior reflects that of a well-behaved prince, which he is. He talks a little casual for royalty, but that can be chalked up to his sociability. He's fairly easy to read, if only because he's so sincere. Most of what Shikamaru would pick up on are from filtered discussions (with

How strong is this character? He's a fit eighteen-year-old boy. He's strong physically and magically, but he's just an average human in the end.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Yuber: Well, it's in the guide now that he's listed as the most dangerous person in Luceti at this moment. Facts that are easy to find out is that he's crazy and enjoys attacking and killing humans. He's a master swordsman, he can teleport and use magic. Multiple people capable of defending themselves have died or been seriously injured thanks to him. The fact that he's not human is definitely out there (though not as much that he's a demon, but it is pretty easy to dig up). Anything beyond that isn't really common knowledge, so I ask you find it out ICly.
Erim: It's pretty easy to figure out she's some sort of a non-human creature that is trying to pretend to be human (and not always doing well with it). She teleports everywhere she goes pretty much, so that wouldn't be hard for anyone to catch on to. A bit more digging may reveal her incredible skills with magic.
Arshtat: She's royalty in her world (is Queen in fact), and it's easy enough to figure out that her kingdom very much reveres the sun. Where she is from is a Queendom, so she's in charge. Wouldn't be hard to figure out that she has moments where she has a really horrible temper, but overall is a decently nice person and it would be obvious she is loved in her home world.
Can he hack their filters? If I list a percent less than 100, he's welcome to hack (if I list no percent, it's likely hackable, but I prefer it not be hacked). Just please don't have him hacking 99% or less filters within a week of his arrival and you won't hear complaints from me.
And Yuber at times has threads listed as "Off Journal" and the stuff being said is in italics. Those are basically kinda like voice posts, but done telepathically. It's limited to him and his summoner, no one can listen in on it. Just want to make sure to clarify that.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Depends on the character, will give more below.
If yes, what is he allowed to do?
Yuber is actually a really weird case, he does not cast a shadow. Until I take that away via death penalty (or a Mallynapping again), it's actually impossible to use that ability on him.
I would prefer he not use it on Arshtat if the Sun Rune isn't already active. If it's active, he's welcome to use it to buy time, but if it isn't, that will make it come into control and it will be very bad for not only Shikamaru, but all of Luceti.
How strong is this character? All of my characters are pretty strong. If it can ever be used on Yuber, I expect he'll be the quickest to regain some control, with Arshtat in second (she's used to dealing with something attempting to control her, and Erim in third. And Erim is no slouch here either.
Anything else? Nope!

What can Shikamaru learn about this character?
Honestly, Hitsugaya's a bit easy to read, despite how much he tries otherwise. He's a grumpy kid, but he's prone to being blunt. As far as powers and abilities go, Shikamaru would only learn about those if he sees them; Hitsguaya doesn't really talk about them.
Alexis is an open book. She likes it that way, for the most part. Almost anything is fair game: she's an affluent kid, big heart, easygoing, practical.
Can he hack their filters?
Yep, up to 100%. Hitsugaya can make something unhackable, but he rarely cares to.

Noel's an open book. It's probably very easy to tell how she's feeling by just looking at her. She tends to wear her heart on a sleeve. And of course, you can always IM me if you're not sure about something.

I'd say for someone like her, she's pretty strong. But compared with the rest of her cast + the current lack of a pair of guns... she's a bit on the weak side right now. :| However, before she returned to Luceti she had been busy being a god-slayer and kicking everyone's ass left and right, (and nearly coming close to going a destroying what is basically a god in the BB world) so while she's not really... that... she has a lot of potential.

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Marcell's pretty easy to read! Easily frightened, more than a little paranoid, and his body language indicates that he's generally ready to run at a moment's notice. He generally doesn't talk much about himself or about where he's from, but after a while it's obvious it's more because he doesn't know much about his world, and what he does know is...pretty unpleasant stuff.
Also, despite being jumpy as shit, he's very observant himself and would probably notice if Shikamaru was eavesdropping.
Can he hack their filters? Sure.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Sure. Probably won't work if Marcell's in his barrier, but that won't come up for a while, I think.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? I'm pretty much fine with anything, but talk to me first /o/

What can Shikamaru learn about this character? Sasuke is rather guarded, and usually has good control over himself. It's a family trait. I'd say his air of cold indifference is close to perpetual unless you speak Uchiha. (Which Shika might pick up on? Please feel free, he's more than smart enough, and he's been spending time with Itachi, too.) However, if you hit too close to home with him or bring up the right subject (as has already happened once :|) he is bound to snap, and when he does, he isn't afraid to show what he's thinking/feeling. If it's brought up, he will still be hesitant to admit to any lingering affection for his former team members, or other Konoha people, but it'll be more apparent and more easily picked up on to the observant.
Can he hack their filters? Anything under 100%, I'd expect him to be able to.
Can he use Kagemane no Jutsu on them? Of course.
If yes, what is he allowed to do? Whatever he feels necessary, and is capable of. Howeverrrr. I know Sasuke deserves it sometimes, but I'd like to avoid random, embarrassing situations with him for several reasons. (One of them may or may not be how easily things can get ugly with him..) So, if you have any ideas like that, let's plot it out beforehand?

You can compare it to Shikamaru's (http://www.leafninja.com/fullbio.php?p=Nara_Shikamaru). Other than that, just poke me if anything's unsure. Since they're from the same canon, I kinda trust you to have an idea of Sasuke's abilities. ^^;

As for what Sasuke can do. I'm cool with pretty much anything, I guess? Hm - well except black flames that burn everything/Susano'o because that'd be overkill... idk, can he even do those here, or learned to?
Anyways. Yeah, I'm good with about all so long as he retains use of his limbs, etc, unless we're planning something. Though if they do ever get in a serious fight for one reason or another we should talk more specific details then anyways. Silly ninja powers.

Fft, I'm not going to let him use Amaterasu inside the barrier, even if it would be allowed. That's kinda where I draw the line, it's too destructive. I'm saving that one for if he gets drafted. He has learned to control it, though, right before his canon point. Susano'o, as I can remember, he hasn't actually used it yet, so while he has the ability, he'll have to learn to do it first... Or he'll have to face a strong enough enemy for it to happen as a reflex. But I'm actually still waiting for a reply from a mod telling me if that one counts as a summon or not. If it doesn't, I'm thinking it might be reasonable for him to use the first stage in Luceti, the ribcage-like shield-only thing? Hopefully, though, even that can be avoided, especially in a one-on-one fight. ...EITHER WAY. If they do fight, I hope it won't go far enough as to have Sasuke activate his Mangekyou in the first place. He can stick to his normal sharingan. :|b
